New Jersey Plastic Surgery Has Gone Virtual!

Aging can take a toll on the face. You may suffer from a depletion of natural subcutaneous fat tissue, creating the appearance of hollowed cheeks and an overall loss of youthful volume. On the other hand, you may experience the opposite, the accumulation of stubborn fat in the cheeks or beneath the chin, creating puffiness or a double-chin.

The effects of time and gravity impact us differently, and at varying degrees. It is important that your treatment plan is designed specifically for you and your individual needs. Whether you want to eliminate fat or add volume, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Barry DiBernardo can help you achieve your aesthetic goals with facial liposuction and facial fat grafting.

What Is Facial Liposuction?

Facial liposuction is a minimally-invasive procedure designed to remove and reshape stubborn fat cells that accumulate in the face (often the cheeks), neck, and beneath the chin. By making very small incisions and using precise instruments, Dr. DiBernardo can significantly reduce bloating and puffiness to restore strong, youthful contours in the face. The procedure can also effectively sculpt the contours of your neck and jowls, and eliminate the appearance of a double chin.

Facial liposuction can be combined with other cosmetic facial procedures, such as facial fat grafting or a facelift to achieve optimal results.

The placement of incisions will depend on your unique needs; however, they are typically hidden behind the ears or in natural neck or jowl creases to minimize the appearance of scarring. Minor bruising and swelling should be expected in the days following face lipo. While recovery differs for everyone, most patients can return to their regular activities about a week after surgery.

Am I a Candidate for Facial Liposuction?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of jowls, “turkey neck”, or a double chin, facial liposuction may be an ideal option. The best way to determine if face lipo is right for you is to meet personally with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Barry DiBernardo in a confidential consultation at New Jersey Plastic Surgery.

Dr. DiBernardo has extensive experience performing a wide range of facial plastic surgery procedures. He will discuss your goals, evaluate your facial attributes, and determine your candidacy for face liposuction. Together, you and Dr. DiBernardo will design a treatment plan that best suits your budget, lifestyle, and desired outcome.

What Is Facial Fat Grafting?

While facial liposuction is performed to remove unwanted fat from the face and neck areas, facial fat grafting is performed to restore fat to areas of the face that have lost youthful fullness by using your body’s own fat cells. The procedure begins by harvesting fat from an area of your body such as the abdomen or thighs. The harvested fat is then purified and injected into target areas of the face to add volume, improve contours, and restore youthful beauty. Insertion points for facial fat transfer can include:

  • Temples
  • Nose
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Lips
  • Around the eyes
  • Around the mouth

Facial fat grafting is a versatile, highly-customizable procedure. In addition to creating youthful volume, it is also an effective anti-aging option that can reduce wrinkles, creases, and fine lines.

You may experience some bruising, soreness, and swelling after your fat transfer, but these symptoms will subside. Dr. DiBernardo will fully explain what you can expect during your recovery and answer all of your questions.

Is Facial Fat Grafting Right for Me?

If the loss of facial volume causes you to be unhappy with your appearance, you may be a good candidate for facial fat grafting. Patients who undergo the procedure typically experience:

  • Prominence of bony facial features
  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth
  • Facial lines and wrinkles
  • Thin or “deflated” lips
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Hollow cheeks

During your initial consultation with Dr. DiBernardo, he will assess your facial features and determine your candidacy for the procedure. He will also help you explore other treatment options that may complement your facial fat grafting, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or other fillers and injectables.
