Drink Pink in New Jersey for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month New Jersey Plastic Surgery

Here’s how a Philly brewery is raising money for breast cancer, and how their efforts will benefit South New Jersey residents.

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) gets underway, you may be thinking about how you can make a difference in the lives of the one in eight women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone.

As for Yards Brewing Company, they are proving their support with beer. One dollar for every case of the brewery’s berry-based IPA, appropriately named Pynk, will go to benefit South New Jersey-based breast cancer organization, The Tyanna Foundation.

Meanwhile, some plastic and breast reconstruction surgeons are offering BCAM specials like “Injection Day”, where discounts on Juvḗderm and BOTOX® are paired with $10-per-syringe donations to breast cancer charities.

Whether it’s donating directly to fund cancer treatment, pressuring governments for real action, or simply drinking beer from a brewery that’s plugged into the cause, it’s time to find out your involvement can have the most impact. Here are a few things you should know about mammograms this year.

Why a mammogram? Why now?

  • Self-checks are important, but lumps cannot always be felt.
  • On average, mammograms, on average, take 20-30 minutes.
  • Set an example. Be a role model.
  • Did we mention it’s the second-leading cause of death among women?
  • It’s safe, and it can save your life.

Also, a good rule of thumb to remember on the day of your mammogram is to not wear deodorant, lotion, power, perfume or jewelry – all of these can play a factor in mammogram misreads.

So being proactive about breast cancer awareness is clearly a huge part of prevention. But what to after breast cancer?

For breast cancer survivors, breast reconstruction is usually the next step. An excellent option for breast reconstruction patients seeking a more natural look – without the round-on-top fullness – is the shaped implant.

Breast reconstruction patients approach breast implants with a very different mindset than most breast augmentation patients. These silicone gel-filled “teardrop” implants are helping many mastectomy patients regain their confidence while improving quality of life.
