Breast implants, also known as augmentation mammaplasty, can provide increased self esteem and confidence for many women.
Who Gets Breast Implants?
Women of various ages and backgrounds decide to get breast implants for many different reasons. Some just wish to have larger breasts to properly fill out clothing and lingerie. Others may wish to have a more voluptuous and feminine body. Some may have uneven breasts and wish to achieve symmetry. Still others may be looking to restore their breasts to their post-childbirth/nursing appearance and may seek to undergo a breast lift. But all of them have one thing in common: the desire to feel better about their breasts and their appearance.
The Procedure Explained
The type of breast implant will be determined based on each patients particular needs and desires. Choices include both round and contoured. They can also have either low, moderate high or extra high profile depending on the amount of lift needed to achieve the desired results. Other criteria that may be used to select the implant type may include the width of the breast in order to correct any issues with asymmetry or any other deformities and the volume and shape desired. There are four commonly used places for the incision site that will be used for the insertion of the breast implant:
• Lower edge of the areola
• In the fold just under the breast
• Under the arm
• Through the navel
After Breast Implants patients are still able to:
• Have breast exams
• Have regular mammograms and ultrasounds
• Breast feed
