What is a Hair Transplant?

Since most people begin experiencing hair loss in the frontal part of their scalp, a hair transplant takes advantage of thicker hair in the sides and back of the scalp. Hairs from this area are transplanted to the front part of the scalp to fill in the balding area. Men are the most frequent recipients of hair transplant procedures, but women sometimes can benefit when also experiencing hair loss.

The Hair Transplant Procedure

After the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. DiBernardo will begin harvesting hair follicles from the donor region of your scalp. These healthy follicles will then be transplanted into the thinning parts of your scalp. The procedure varies in length, depending upon how many grafts are required. A 2,000 hair graft hair transplant can take about six hours.

Getting Back to Normal Following Hair Transplant Surgery

You will be advised to avoid shampooing your hair for at least 48 hours after your hair transplant surgery, as your scalp will be quite tender at this time and need rest. Once this period is over, you may wash and style your hair as you normally would.

You may resume light physical activity when four days has passed post-surgery. You should, however, avoid work or vigorous activity for a week or so after your procedure.

If you are bothered by the appearance of thinning hair, a hair transplant may be right for you to enhance your appearance and self-confidence. Morris County residents are invited to contact New Jersey Plastic Surgery® to set up a consultation.
