What is a Hair Transplant?
It is not unusual for those who are balding to start losing hair at the front of their scalp. A hair transplant corrects this by removing healthy hair from the sides and back of the head and placing them in the front where bald spaces are forming. This procedure is performed mostly on men, but women can also revive thinning hair with a hair transplant.
The Hair Transplant Procedure
The first step in a hair transplant is anesthesia. Once the area is numb, Dr. DiBernardo will harvest hair follicles from the side of the head. He will then carefully relocate these follicles in the places that are balding. The procedure can be time consuming, depending on the number of grafts to be transplanted. Typically, a transplant of 2,000 hair grafts will take between five and six hours.
Getting Back to Normal Following Hair Transplant Surgery
If you have just had a hair transplant, it is important to wait at least 48 hours before you shampoo your hair. After two days, feel free to wash and style your hair as you normally would. You may resume light activity about three or four days post procedure. Most people take a week off of work and wait to perform any high-energy activities.
If you are bothered by thinning hair, consider restoring the mane you once enjoyed. A hair transplant will make you feel years younger and give you back self-confidence. If you live in Middlesex County, give New Jersey Plastic Surgery® a call today.
