When you are going bald, a hair transplant can provide a worthwhile answer to an age-old problem. If you live in Essex County, New Jersey, and you aren’t happy with the state of your follicles, consider turning to New Jersey Plastic Surgery®, located in Montclair, for help with your hair loss.
What is a Hair Transplant?
Male pattern baldness usually starts with the loss of hair at the top of the head and along the front of the scalp. A hair transplant replaces the lost hair by moving healthy strands of hair from the sides or back of your head to the front where hair is thinning. While this procedure is mostly performed on men, women with hair loss or thinning hair can also undergo the procedure. The doctor will work with you to personalize the transplant process.
The Hair Transplant Procedure
The procedure starts with numbing the treatment area. As the anesthetic takes effect, Dr. DiBernardo begins removing hair follicles from the side or back of your head. These follicles are gently relocated in the spots where hair has thinned. The amount of time required to complete the procedure depends on the number of follicles being transplanted. If the doctor transplants 2,000 hair grafts, it takes about six hours to complete the procedure.
Getting Back to Normal Following Hair Transplant Surgery
It is imperative that you wait 48 hours before you shampoo your hair. When the doctor gives you the go-ahead, you can wash and style you hair as usual. Most people are able to resume light activities a few days after surgery, but it is recommended that you wait a week before returning to work or participating in energetic pursuits.
If the reflection in the mirror is showing someone you don’t recognize, and you are concerned about your thinning hair, consider what a hair transplant can do for you. A full head of hair will make you feel young again and restore your self-image of yourself.
