New Study Shows It’s Safe To Combine A Breast Augmentation And A Breast Lift New Jersey Plastic Surgery

A new report, appearing in the January issue of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal, shows that a breast augmentation with implants and a breast lift can be safely combined into one cosmetic procedure.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

How Researchers Determined Breast Augmentation and Lifting Can Be Safely Combined

The study was done by ASPS Member Surgeon Michael Bradley Calobrace, MD, and his colleagues between 2005 and 2009.
The researchers reviewed their experiences performing a breast lift and a breast augmentation as a single procedure. Just over 330 cases where the two procedures were performed together were studied by Calobrace and his colleagues.

The way in which the researchers determined the safety of a combined procedure was to assess the rates of complications and re-operations. In comparison to a control group of women who only underwent a breast lift surgery, the safety rating for the combination procedure was not significantly different than the single procedure.

"In our experience, patients overwhelmingly prefer not to undergo a staged procedure and rather have the augmentation and mastopexy [breast lift] concurrently," wrote Dr. Calobrace and the other researchers.
