Arm Lift

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) Surgery in New Jersey

Is Arm Lift Surgery Right for You?

The arm lift is right for you if your upper arms are disproportionately large from excess skin, stretched arm skin, and fat deposits. If you are still working to achieve weight loss, we recommend postponing your arm lift until you have reached a stable body weight. Good candidates are healthy, non-smokers who are capable of understanding the risks and benefits involved

Arm Lift Techniques

In some cases, Dr. DiBernardo can tighten and recontour the arms using only liposuction. If you have good skin tension and only moderate fat deposits, this may be an option to consider. In most cases, the arm lift will require removal of skin as well as fat.

Incisions are made on the inner part of your arm. While the incision length will vary, it usually travels from the underarm toward the elbow. Using liposuction and excision techniques, Dr. DiBernardo removes enough tissue to achieve the desired results. Sutures are placed to close the arm lift incisions and fixate the new shape.

Recovering from Arm Lift

When you go home after surgery, you will be wrapped in tape and a special elastic garment. During recovery, you will need to keep the arms elevated and limit movement. Total arm lift recovery time is about 2 to 4 weeks, which varies depending on the extent of your arm lift and the amount of tissue removed. Medications will be prescribed to help you manage discomfort during this time.

Arm lift surgery does leave scars on the upper arms. Although they are placed in the most inconspicuous location possible, and will gradually fade and flatten out, the scars are permanent. Patients should take this into consideration before they undergo arm lift surgery at our New Jersey plastic surgery practice. Most people decide that scars are an acceptable tradeoff for slimmer, more appealing arms.

Benefits of Arm Lift Surgery

An Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) can help your arms look tighter and younger. The upper arm can be disproportionately large from excess fat, stretched arm skin, or both. An arm lift can correct these problems with liposuction only if there is good skin tension and moderate fat excess, or by a procedure that removes both fat and skin.
