Juvederm ® Injectable Gel (lines)
Juvederm is a smooth injectable gel used for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. The most common treatment application for Juvederm is in the nasolabial folds, the lines that travel from your nose to each side of your mouth.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural component of the skin that acts as a space filler, hydrator and cell protector. Over time the skin will lose volume and lines will start to become deeper and more noticeable. With a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm, we can restore skin volume and correct unsightly folds. Plastic surgeons have used Juvederm in a variety of cosmetic treatments, correcting some of these common problems:
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Thin lips
- Sunken cheeks
Are there different types of Juvederm?
For injections of varying depth, Juvederm is offered in a few different formulas including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm Ultra XC.
How is a Juvederm treatment performed?
Juvederm is an injectable treatment. Dr. DiBernardo uses a needle of specific size to inject the product beneath your skin. To control discomfort, a dental block or topical anesthetic is used before treatment. Many injectable treatments are being done with very minimal pain reported. After injection, the doctor may need to briefly massage the treated area to ensure smooth results. The area often feels fuller than normal after your treatment, but that should subside quickly.
How long do results of Juvederm last?
Results of a single Juvederm treatment can last up to 1 year. Many patients choose to undergo brief touch up treatments to ensure a longer correction of facial wrinkles.
Are there side effects I should know about?
The most commonly reported side effects include but are not limited to temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain, firmness, swelling, bumps, bruising, itching and discoloration. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature and last for less than seven days.
