Varicose Veins

What are varicose veins?

Like spider veins, varicose veins are a common condition that cause swollen veins, visible just below the skin’s surface.

Varicose veins, however, are typically larger and more painful that spider veins. They form when the valves of the vein become weak or damaged so that the blood flows in a retrograde direction. Fluid accumulates, and the veins swell. Varicose veins can cause burning, aching and throbbing, and may lead to blood clots and ulcers.
